I wonder which idea came first to Steven Moffat - the mystery of Clara, the monsters in the wi-fi, or the Spoonheads? Because that last one is brilliant! I’ve heard a rumour that the finale will introduce their relatives, the Sporklegs.

Anyway, this episode. Well, it’s pretty good, innit.

I was expecting a non-stop all-guns-blazing opener, so I was quite surprised to find it was actually quite low-key and small. Obviously the wi-fi plot was a worldwide threat, but it didn’t appear to be as in-your-face as it has been in the past. It’s a little like Partners in Crime in that respect - a massive threat, but the main focus of the episode is the new companion.

Clara Oswald, for the win. Os-win. The clues start to trickle in. But, as we now know, with every clue must come another mystery. Who’s the woman in the shop? Most speculation I’ve seen indicates River is the most popular choice but I’m hoping Moffat surprises us all. In fact, my first thought was a certain Rose Tyler (particularly after the news that Billie’s returning for the 50th). The only issue there is Rose being in a shop, on our Earth, in 2013. But weirder things have happened.

Back to Clara. Less annoying than Oswin, thankfully, and slightly better than Victorian Clara. Of the three, this one’s my favourite. Jenna’s a great addition to the cast, finally a fresh face after far too much Amy and Rory. Her Time Lord-in-tow, Matt, is on fine form as ever too.
